DutyDoctor was founded by Dr. Neil Iosson because he was frustrated! He was working as a partner at a busy South Coast GP practice and was exasperated that he was working so hard in the day he had no chance to go to the office and use the wall calendar to plan his holiday.

Neil was usually also so tired at the end of the day he forgot to check what shift he was working and all too often turned up too early when he was working a late shift. Grouchy, over coffee, he determined to solve this so he could go on holiday and spend more time in bed.

Another problem was that the practice was needed to employ an administrator, Judy, pretty much full time to manage the clinical staff rota and cover annual leave, book locums and sort out problems. Another staff was needed to schedule the administration and management teams in this medium-sized practice.

Several years and a lot of hard work later, DutyDoctor was born as a solution to make life easier for practice staff and reduce the administrative headaches of staff scheduling. Uniquely it manages a multi-disciplinary team and can confidently allocate shifts to the person with the required skill, no matter what their job title or qualification is.

DutyDoctor has developed into a system used by NHS GP practices, federations and private event companies to fulfill their needs in delivering primary care services.

Dr. Neil Iosson trained Developmental and Neurobiology at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge before continuing in clinical studies at Cambridge University Clinical School, graduating in 1998. Since then he has completed his MRCP whilst at Southampton and DIMC and MRCGP (Distinction) in Chichester. He has also completed a BSc in Computing and IT, specialising in relational databases which were the stimulus to develop DutyDoctor. He was accepted on to the NHS Clinicial Entrepreneur program in 2017 to develop DutyDoctor Ltd and spread its benefits to NHS primary care through the UK.

Neil also works as a Clinical Director for Innovations in Primary Care Ltd, as a business partner at Loxwood Medical Practice, West Sussex and provides freelance locum GP and business consultancy services in Sussex and the South-East.
